How do I know that student projects are sound and that materials will be used as promised? |
| |
|
Before a project is posted at One+One, trained volunteers do their utmost to screen the proposals, verifying that the teacher and the project meet our eligibility requirements and clarifying all follow-up questions with the teacher if anything is unclear.

What feedback do I receive from the classroom? |
| |
|
When a project is funded, One + One purchases the materials for the teacher (shipping directly to the school), and compiles a feedback package of photographs, student thank-you notes, and a teacher impact letter. Included in that feedback is an expenditure report so that you know your contribution was spent as designated.

How am I acknowledged for my gift? |
| |
|
As much as possible, donors may expect to receive three acknowledgements from One + One:
- Official receipt after your donation has been received.
- Thank you note from the teacher and students one week to a month after the project is fully-funded.
- Photos of how the donated materials got utilized.

Is it possible to partially fund a project? |
| |
|
Donors are welcome to partially fund a project of their choice. In fact, more than 50% of funded student projects become classroom realities through partial donations.

What happens if the remainder is not funded by other donors and the project will not be fully-funded? |
| |
|
Upon partially funding a project, you decide what One + One will do with your gift in the event that the project's remaining need is not funded within a 60-day period. Options include:
- Transferring the contribution to another One + One project of your choice.
- Designating the contribution to support our operations.
- Contributing your donation into “General Funds” which will be used to fill in the gaps for those projects which have been at least 90% funded and are fast expiring.
- Full refund of the donated amount.

Can I donate the materials themselves rather than make a cash donation? |
| |
|
Yes. Please coordinate with your designated One + One representative on how the logistics of the donation will be executed.

Can I meet the teacher and the students whose project I funded? |
| |
|
Unfortunately, for privacy reasons, this is not something One+One can facilitate.

How is the project price tag calculated? |
| |
|
When a project is screened, our volunteers first verify that materials are priced correctly. Then they include several additional charges: shipping and sales tax, credit card processing fee, disposable camera and photo development, and postage for the feedback package. These fixed costs represent, on average, 5% of the project price tag.

| |
What happens when the price of a project suddenly changes before it is fully-funded? |
| |
|
On rare occasions, the cost of the materials change between the time a student proposal is screened and the time it is funded. (This can be caused by sale pricing, an out-of-stock vendor, etc.) In cases of under-pricing, One + One covers the difference out of its operating funds. In cases of over-pricing, One + One places any excess contribution into “General Funds” which will be used to fill in the gaps for those projects that have been at least 70% funded and are fast expiring.

Where do funds designated for “Operational Expenses” really go? |
| |
|
Donations to our operations are usually used to maintain the website, pay for phone bills of calls to teachers and donors, PO Box fees, etc. All our staff members operate on a volunteer basis. Under no circumstance is a staff member entitled to a salary, a loan, a commission, no matter what the amount.

| |
What percentage of my contribution goes to One + One’s operations and what percentage to the project I am funding? |
| |
|
The total amount of your contribution goes to the project you select to fund. That includes funding for the procurement, and delivery of the materials to the school.

Other than funding projects, are there other ways to help students through One + One? |
| |
|
Spread the word. It's vital that you tell friends, family, and/or colleagues about this opportunity to help public school students. Some donors have chosen to help by organizing fundraisers to support student projects. Please contact us at info@oneplusoneph.org for more information. Your support can also be highlighted by adding a link to your website or mentioning www.oneplusoneph.org in your email signature.
Become a volunteer screener. Volunteers for One + One review and approve student projects before they are posted to our site. As a volunteer, you can help at any time, from anywhere, virtually! This role provides a great way to learn more about public schools and the needs of students and teachers. Contact info@oneplusoneph.org to learn more about becoming a volunteer screener.
Make some introductions. One+One welcomes the opportunity to work with your employer. You can help One+One develop new corporate partnerships by:
- Introducing One+One to the philanthropic arm of your organization for inclusion in workplace giving campaigns or grant opportunities.
- Utilizing corporate matching programs to increase the value of your donation.
- Facilitating One+One coverage in a company newsletter.
- Organizing a volunteer group at your organization.
